The Design

Vista House was conceived as a grounding family retreat, a place for connection, play and exploration. Set on a steeply sloping site with sweeping water and city views, the home is shaped by its relationship to landscape and outlook.

The sky, the water and the rock form the foundation of the design, informing a rhythmic architectural language across three levels. Framed views and transitions between inside and out strengthen the connection to place, while generous living spaces and expansive gardens create a cohesive setting for gathering, playing and retreat.

Sunken courtyard with blue banquette seating, a fire pit, sandstone paving and terraced native planting
Covered outdoor lounge with rendered columns, patterned cushions and pendant lights

The Details

Materiality is intentionally restrained, with a focus on texture, repetition and subtle variation. Buff brickwork, hit-and-miss screening and deliberate brick lays establish a soft, tonal base, punctuated by dark aluminium glazing and cascading greenery.

Detailing brings rhythm and definition to the architecture. Deep window surrounds and articulated openings frame views beyond, while limestone and bronze introduce a lived-in quality to the home. The result is understated and enduring, elevated through moments of precision and considered detail.
