The Design

Quatrefoil House reimagines a Gothic Revival townhouse as a contemporary family home, balancing the ornate character of its Victorian origins with a distinctly modern, masculine sensibility.

The refurbishment explores a series of layered spatial sequences, where expansive glazed voids and a sculptural cantilevered staircase connect spaces for living, entertaining and retreat. A quadruple-height void brings light deep into the plan, while an open-plan kitchen and dining space, lounge, gym and spiral wine cellar create a home equally suited to family life and entertaining.

Throughout, a celebration of craftsmanship and bespoke design reflects the client’s Formula One background.

Black console with sculptural vases and dried flowers beside a bespoke fireplace
Bedroom with a deep teal upholstered wall, green quilted bedspread and walnut panelling
Kitchen with walnut cabinetry, black island and a sculptural wine cabinet beneath the bridge

The Details

A dialogue between heritage ornamentation and contemporary craftsmanship informs the home’s materiality and detailing. Walnut parquetry meets black resin flooring, while patinated metal, leather-clad joinery and bespoke furniture introduce a rich, tactile quality to the interiors.

A sculptural wine cabinet creates a focal point across the kitchen bridge, while more intimate spaces present softened finishes such as leather-lined joinery. Custom fireplaces developed in collaboration with racing engineers bring a distinct sense of precision and individuality.

Externally, hand-cast bronze quatrefoil tiles reinterpret the home’s Gothic Revival detailing, complemented by a singular concrete column inspired by an inverted Gothic window. The result is a layered interplay of old and new, where ornament, materiality and meticulous detailing establish a distinctive architectural identity.
